Spreadsheets serve small teams well for a long time. The trouble usually starts as the number of files grows: the same customer in two tabs, no certainty about whose file holds the current price, and no record of past conversations anywhere.
The first step in planning a move is deciding what actually needs to come across. Migrating years of accumulated spreadsheets in full is usually unnecessary; duplicated and stale records should be cleaned before migration.
The second step is simplifying the field structure. Some of the columns added over the years are no longer used, and a migration is a good moment to drop them.
The last step is the team adjusting. However well the new system is built, there is a pull back to old habits in the first weeks — which is why regular follow-up after go-live matters as much as the setup itself.
